Increasingly areas are defined where you are not allowed to discharge anything into the water. The factory standard black water tank on Hanse's is only 32 ltr, which is way to small even for 2 persons for a couple of days.I found a empty space hidden in the shower behind the Panel ( 2 cabin Version ) where you can install a separate 50 ltr stainless steel tank, this one is connected to the standard 32 ltr tank resulting in a comfortable 80 ltr holding tank. In addition to this I have a 125 ltr Grey water tank in my port "cargo hold".  I have chosen a ultrasonic Philippi Level Level sensor connected to a Phlippi TCM4 tank level Monitor.

Interesting.
I have also considered to add another holding tank because as you said the original is just way too small. How did you connect them together?

I used the outlet of the mini 32 ltr tank ( which normally connects to the discharge through hull for discharge ) and connected that one to the bottom of the new tank behind the shower panel. The new tank then got his own vent ( I left the vent for the min tank ) and its own deck discharge fitting for the pump out station suction hose.
As tank level sensor I fitted a Philippi ultrasonic UTV 800.
The stainless steel tank was made to measure by a local fabricator in Austria.
The dimensions of the tank are:
Depth Top:      260 mm
Depth Bottom: 160 mm
Height:            600 mm
Width:             400 mm ( this is the width of the shower panel )

To be honest, the whole system designed by me but it was installed by my trusted mechanic from the local Hanse dealer.Wink

Thanks for the information.
I guessed something like that based on the picture.
Maybe installation of a second tank will be a project for next winter.

Interesting project.
Have you also checked whether the existing tank can be replaced with a larger, similar the one you made?

In fact I did, the real Limit is the small opening ( the rack ) and all the piping / cables in this compartment.  Unless you want to make a complete new wall rack behind the loo this does not work. I also guess that I would get a Maximum of 60ltrs into the space behind the loo.

I am now completely happy with my combined  80ltrs black water Reservoir.

Hello Frank!

I have copied your solution and have now received the new tank. Now, when planning the installation I wonder where you have placed the extra discharge on deck?
Is it right above the new tank and mounted in a similar way that the original one?
Was it a problem to get the hose to pass the cabling above the tank?

Heja Kjell,

the 2nd outlet is mounted right next to the factory fitted outlet of the mini tank.
Unfortunately I did not install it myself, as my favorite boatyard did the Installation.
As I recall the bill, it apparently was not too complicated.
Did you fit the ultrasonic sensor as well ?

Kind Regrads

Thanks for a quick and useful answer. I have been to the boat and now I know how to install the hose and the discharge. Next step is to start drilling with the hole saw.
For tank measurement I have chosen Gobius 4.

Designed a similar tank for my Hanse 345 and got it built by a company called Plastinvent here in Norway. VERY pleased with the result.

This upgrade is so worth it!!!

I also replaced the old AGM batteries with Lithium...another upgrade that is recommended 🙂⛵⛵
