Does anyone know why the Hanse325 of 2014 (and maybe others) has the lower 4 mainsail slides fixed to the luff of the sail with bungee cord?  Also, there is only a total of 8 slides on the sail - an earlier 325 I saw recently had twice this number.

The bungee might be for reefing the sail

I do not understand your answer iemand. I think he is saying that the lowest sail slides are fixed to the sail with bungee instead of being stitched on. Perhaps the sailmaker can tell you why.

I'll answer my own question - as Charles P says - ask the sailmaker - Elvstrom say that the bungee (the lower 3 slides) is for  "inexperienced reefing".  Many thanks to Elvstrom for their advice, and for providing me with plastic sail slides - which I've used to replace the bungee, and I am very pleased with the much improved sail shape!  I hope this post is of interest to thers with the bungee.

As far as I know 2014 Hanse have Selden Mast.
The C type Selden Mast accept MDS slides and classic plastic friction slides.  Effective & convenient although quite expensive.
Don't need any Rostan or Rutgerson slides that fit Sparcraft masts

i have fixed mainsail luff sag by replacing elastic on mainsail slides with webbing and getting a cunningham hole fitted by local sailmaker and using the cunningham(downhaul) to control luff tension
