I have just joined this forum and I am interested in buying a 2009 540e. I am moving from Beneteau to Hanse - This forum seems to be full of problems from water tanks leaking to floor panels trapped under furniture - does anyone have anything positive to say about the brand and in particular the 540e - any comments/response are appreciated.

I am a manufacturing engineer and have visited the yard prior to ordering. I was positively surprised about the quality assurance system and about the processes. The system is modelled after the system Porsche in Leipzig uses and all steps are well documented.
I also talked to a multi brand dealer, who confirmed that after sales expenses and warranty costs for Hanses are much lower than competing brands of other volume builders. Don't be surprised to read only negative things here in the forum. Many of them are single cases and the forumites are seeking and getting competent help for fixing things.

Hi, not sure if you bought a 540 yet. But, I can share some experiences with you. Our Hanse has carried us safely through some major storms, she is very fast, carries a lot of sails and provides a safe feeling even in high winds. However, yes, we have had issues with all sorts of components. But, these were mostly because inexperienced or sloppy people have done repairs or additions to the boat. The core of the boat is good, modern and mostly reliable. We have a lot of "stuff" on the boat with excessive electronics, ACs, genset, watermaker etc. If you maintain it right and regularily, you will heve less problems. Even a water pump sometimes needs a new impeller... Just to share on tiny experience with you. We had a software update with our Raymarine plotter untits done while (we discovered later) the autopilot junction box was accidentially not connected. All of the sudden, the plotter spoke English and the autopilot was still on - let's say creole. It took me 6 months to find this fault - almost got crazy because the ap would only communicate once in a while and never when you needed him the most...little mistake huge problem. Hanse's fault? Certainly not. My own stupidity .. |

Hi, thanks for the response I appreciate it. I haven't bought my Hanse yet still waiting to sell my Bene. I have looked at many other boats and I keep ending back at 540e. The problems you mention, as you say, are not Hanse issues and could happen on any boat.
