Hanse 312 - sea cocks and hoses (newbie question)

   Hey folks,

we have just bought a Hanse 312 from 2004 after sailing with our 27 ft boat on the Baltic Sea for the past eight years. 

Would any of you have an overview/diagram of the hoses and sea cocks in the boat?

I am particularly interested in the hose that is leaving the pump that sucks the showering-water out; the pump is sitting under the portside backbox, the hose is vanishing somewhere in the basement of our good boat, but I cannot find, where it is connected and which sea cock would it be connected to.

Any of you got an idea...?

	On a 341 of the same vintage, the hose feeds back into the cupboard under the sink and there is anti syphon loop of pipe that reaches almost up to the deck and then it connects to the heads sink outlet by the sea cock. To stop water running back out of the anti-syphon loop and onto the shower floor, I installed a simple non-return valve after the shower pump. PM your email address and I will send you some very crude drawings I have made of the pipes on our boat, and this may give you some clues.

	On my 315 from 2007 the hose goes to a through-hull above the waterline, port side aft, next to the engine-outlet.

	On my 311 the shower was an extra. So it may be that yours was never connected. If it was the hose leaves the outlet & travels aft alongside a stringer to the shower strainer then the pump then as suggested above out through the transom ( there is a seacock on the outlet)on the port side The strainer & pump can be found by opening the locker door from the heads & lifting the 2 floor panels. The pump & strainer are positioned near the heads inlet & outlets seacocks. The power for the pump is controlled initially from the main switch panel & then again from a switch just under the sink in the heads. If there is no switch there is a good chance there is no pump. If you want advice on a solution feel free to PM me on a good installation. Regarding the other seacocks There is one under the kitchen sink one under the heads sink Then the 2 for the heads- In & out which are under the removable panels to the floor of the aft locker just under the black water tank If you have the volvo engine there is a tap on the top of the saildrive on the port side & it can be found at the end of the hose leading up to the strainer in the aft locker Edited by samuel - 21 June 2022 at 08:18

	Samuel I always consider the 311 up to 342 as being of the same family and it is interesting to see the similarities and the differences and you wonder which were design points and which were dependent on the individual who was building the yacht. I have a big seacock in the back locker, just above the waterline, and it it the outlet for the 2 bilge pumps. You have not listed an equivalent. I have to say I never shut that seacock, apart form a bi-annual movement test, as the only reason I can see for doing that is if you want to do something on the bilge pump pipework or, possibly, if you think you are going to meet some heavy confused seas. Yanmar engines have the seacock on the starboard side of the saildrive and if this is not moved regularly they can seize up.

	You are correct. I forgot the bilge pump sea cocks, having never operated them. I have never pumped water through them, as I use the shower pump to clean out bilge water. I did point out that the valve for the engine was for the Volvo. Not having a Yanmar (nor a 345) I cannot comment.

	Good evening, Thanks for your replies so far. In the meantime I also got some information from Hanse that I would like to share with you in case you are interested: Openings had to be on the boat in the VS log / plumb sensor, under the galley: drain and toilet, bathroom under vanity: shower and sink and in the BK the drain holding tank. The engine gets fresh water via the saildrive and exhaust then aft STB at the stern. Also attached is a rough overview of the water system with the respective onboard outlets. Cheers, Marcel

	When I replaced all my cold water plumbing when trying cure a bad water taste, was to put a stopcock in the pipe going to the deck shower as close to the "t junction" as possible to stop the water in that pipe from going stagnent - due to a lack of use, and infectiong the cold water system. These deck shower units are notorious for cracking and leaking water back into the boat.
