I used to use a portable generator on my 370. Stored in the starboard locker and used on deck.
The power was fed in through the shore connection and I installed a new rotary switch under the chart table to take accommodate power sources from mains, generator and inverter (mainly to cut out the power hungry immersion coil for hot water when not enough power could be supplied)
This worked well enough BUT you need to be very careful where the generator is placed. When at anchor the air flow through the cabin is FROM the companionway and OUT the hatches (counter intuitive). Incorrect positioning can bring carbon monoxide into the cabin.
ALWAYS install a CO alarm to be on the safe side!
