Good evening,

yesterday we finally have taken our nice Hanse 312 out of the water - to my big surprise there was a hull anode on the starboard side. Not sure what it is actually doing at a plastic boat, but there is certainly a reason. Furthermore there were several rusty spots on the keel (Iron?) and I suppose it has to do with that. The anode looked very good (= too good if it had worked + the keel did not look so good).

So anyway: I would like to replace it with a "good" one. What is your advise? How often do you replace this thing? Where is the best replacement?

Cheers,

Marcel

Maybe you should check if the "anode" has a yellow/green wire attached from the inside of the boat.
Radio grounding plates are normally placed on the hull under the pantry.
My grounding plate still looks like new after 15 years.

Hi, I have a hull anode  between engine and  rudder with a wire inside connected to the ’rudder stock’, which is a aluminium aluminium one, on my 315.

Hi Billy, I guess your rudder is a a Jefa one, you should check with them if the aluminum stock should be earthed. Night Train came with this installed by Hanse, but following chat on this forum I checked with them and Hanse as the boat was still under warranty. They both agreed that this should be removed.
If you do an advanced search here, remembering to change the date field you will find lots of info
All the best

Jefa's current advice is here ... https://jefa.dk/electrolysis/

This states there should be no electrical connection between rudder, propulsion system and keel (boat's electrical earth?).

There is also special painting instructions if you use Coppercoat type antifouling.

Our 2013 Hanse followed Jefa's earthing recommendations but not Coppercoat recommendations which we rectified at last haul-out.

Cheers.
