Now that I've learned what an MDI is (if not what the acronym stands for...), I'm loving the calorifier drip / bottle arrangement!

Presumably the hose just push-fits onto the valve?

Presumably the hose just push-fits onto the valve, and then the pressure being released slowly pushes the water over the loop?

Hi Simon

MDI = Mechanical Diesel Interface.

The plastic bottle collects a surprising volume of water - maybe a litre or more after a few cold/hot cycles of the calorifier. It doesn't look very elegant but it avoids a frequent (and tedious) job with a sponge and cloth!

Hi guys
The water dripping from the calorifier pressure relief valve, just push a pipe on the niple and tee into the no pressure side of the water pump.
Cheers

I'm not sure that is such a good idea. In the winter when you have drained the calorifier is there not a possibility of the salt water pump sucking in air from the relief valve?

Is it not simpler, and possibly safer, to keep the salt and freshwater systems totally separate?

Hi Rodger
I'm not sure I understand,there is no connection between the fresh water dripping out of the relief valve and the salt water pump.
The calorifier is pressurised by the fresh water pump, when you heat that water the pressure increases further making the safety valve drip

I obviously understand that.
Maybe you should explain which water pump you are suggesting T'ing into. I was assuming you meant the salt water pump on the engine (since that is close). Are you in fact suggesting the fresh water pump? If so, this is 10m away on the 415, under the front bunk. That's a lot of hose to cope with 1 ltr of water every few days!

Sorry I did mean the fresh water pump and on my H430 it's not that far.
However having the area around the calorifier wet all the time, or constantly having to emty a container would piss me off

Understood but it's not a problem.
