Hi

I have a question, which hopefully youíre able to advise on - Iíve had a few Hansess , and I read the forum but never contributed. I find the help from Hanse or its agents limited at best, so Iím hoping you may be able to helpÖ.

Iím looking for a 588, but many of those available do not have the layout Iím looking for. Has anyone changed the layout, for example removing one shower room to make a utility / storage room, or the kitchen layout,

Hi,

Foreword: i've never done it...but i've done some repairs (kitchen isle) and I think that everything is doable by a good carpenter, depending on the extent of the changes you are envisaging to have and the expertise of your contractor in doing these kind of jobs.

Is it economically viable? impossible to say, it depends where you do the job and the quality of the installation.

Is it a good idea to take a series boat and heavily modify it? it may decrease your boat value, in case you would be keen to resell it one day.

Sorry i can't really help here, but i love the 588!

I was building my boat at a time when they offered both the 575 and the 588.    I liked the solent rig of the 588, but did not like much of the interior layout.    The galley and the nav station seemed a step down from the 575 and we liked the utility room as we had no need for 3 heads.   2 was fine,  thank you.

I was told at the time that they could do this on a 588 (utility cabin,  carry over the 575 nav station, and have a port side galley) but they could not point out a boat they had done it to.    Rather than risking it,  I sacrificed the solent rig and went with the 575.

You might find the 1 or 2 that did it out there, but more likely you will have to find a reputable firm who can do the work.    I know in our area (US Rhode Island) that Bristol Marine or New England Boatworks or Hinkley Yachts could do it, but it would likely cost a good amount.   I'd build that into your price point.  From my perspective,  some of the comments assume that 3 heads has more value than a utility cabin (for example).   I don't agree.     It might in fact make the boat more marketable, but I wouldn't assume you will get that investment back.

FWIW

Thank you!
We love the layout of the 575 and as there are just the two of us, donít need the extra showers / heads etc,

Looking at what is available I think we may have to compromise or learn to live with a different design.

 Ö..
