Not sure if this will work on the iPad but NASA Marine sell a Navtex 'Engine' that receives on 490 and 518KHz. It stores the messages internally until polled by a PC to download them to the PC via a USB lead.

I have one and it works well. You can filter the messages using the software provided so you only display what is of interest.

However, I suspect the software supplied for download and filtering will only work on a Windows machine. Is there a PC emulator for the iPad?

There is an App called, Navtex Pad, which has received mixed/poor reviews, but an update has just been issued which might be better. It works by translating the navtex noise output from a radio tuned to the SSB 518 (or 515) kHz.
