Due to a probable touch with a mooring line three (!) blades on one side of our Quick bowthruster broke away (BTR 185 with 4 blades propellers). Is this a repair you should do a.s.a.p. or can it wait until the lift out in autumn? Or can it even be done with the yacht in the water?

Hi Tobo

With a bit of patience, it is fairly easy job in water.

You will probably need a piece of wood to wedge the other prop while unscrewing the nut.I have had the occasion to practice a couple time CryCry with boat in water.

When you order prop,be careful, there is a RH and LH propeller.

Just another boat project.

Thanks Marc for the fast answer. I will have done the job by a shipyard. My second question was how long you can wait for the repair. Can the uneven run cause additional problems (blocking the bowthruster up/down movement by wrong alignment)? I wonder anyway how fast Quick can deliver the spare parts. (We are in Sardenia and in Sicily by next week)

Hi Tobo

Unless you have vibrations, you can probably run it for the season. It will only have less power on that side with missing blades.
We ordered through Quick Italy, and received props within 48 hours (that was in Licata,Sic) last year. And we ordered a LH and RH spares for next incident....wich luckily has not happened since.

Our BT had a few experience with mooring lines or pendilles. On one occasion, the pin that holds the pin in shaft got damaged. On that occasion, we got shipyard to do repair......it was impossible to do underwater.

Therefore from my past experience,I'm pretty sure you can wait till haul out.

Where are you hauling out next winter?

Dear Marc
The job is done by a pro diver in Sicila (Trapani). I wonder how you could do it by yourself. There were vibrations and we didn't run into additional damages. The haul out is only in October (Kos Marina) were our 508 will be in dry dock.

Hi March,
I had the same problem 3 years ago om my 505. Both propellers blew completely. I changed them under water without problems. But I have dive equipment on board. they are quite easy to change..
