I found a handful of Torlon balls on the deck which seem to have come out of one of the cars on the self tacking jib system.

The endcap on the car is cracked.

Does anyone know what series these components are?

Can the be rebuilt with replacement partsÖ. If so I need to purchase a new car assembly?

I havenít had a chance to look at it very closely yet.

Thanks!!!

Rob,

I had our ST car assembly loose it's balls, due to the end caps breaking, and come off the track just north of the Cape Verde Islands. For the rest of the trip across the Atalntic we didn't have a ST headsail. But we managed to rig the headsail as a non ST. Not much tacking coming across the Atlantic.
I ordered the parts from IWW in St Lucia which was expensive. Since then I have ordered some additional parts from Nance and Underwood in Florida and their prices were much better. I gather FKG could also order the parts.
The car assembly is a Series 42,  part number 444-179-02, the plastic end caps are part number 444-102, the balls are part number 319-589 3/8inch Torolon Balls. I also replaced the end stops on the ST track with the HD versions part number 444-143-01 which has a much thicker rubber bumper. I also bought some spare rubber bumpers ( part number 444-413) which seem to need replacing every 2 years or so.
On our car the end caps at the bumper side shattered possibly caused by sun damage (7 years) and the fact that the rubber bumpers were damaged and didn't do their job.
The contact at Nance and Underwood is Carli Ferreira ph 954 764 6001 email office@nanceandunderwood.com
Are you still in SXM?

Thank you Wayne!!!  This info is perfect!!!

We just arrived in SXM.  I came up from Grenada to Bequia to Antigua over the last 2 weeks.

We had lots of heavy tradewind sailing and I broke a few things in route.

Iím excited to get these items ordered!

Morning      Having just sold my brilliant 531 after 16 years ownership I have plenty of suggestions for improvement on the big Hanses .  They may well apply to the smaller models . Having blown up the self tacking jib car early on , I fixed the problem by tying a strop of spectra rope from the base of the mast onto the top of the car on each side . I made a fitting that the inboard end of the strop could tie to at the mast base ,and modified the car to accept the outboard end . The strops were made a length that  made the car stop about 20 mm   from the end stop.  This also protected the end stop on the track and saved a fortune on torlon balls    Good luck   John
