Hi,

I have for a long time been thinking about replacing my old thru hulls and have found a lot of useful tips both here and other places on the net. When bringing my boat up on land this summer, I could not wait longer and just had to start with the waste outlet as these valves had corroded heavily and fastened:

To get better access, I cut out the cabinet-door in the main head and also access and inspection opening under the tank.

The forward head had enough space behind the cabinet-door so I kept that one in place:

I was not happy with the original set up with first a 90 degree bend and then the valve.
I once had a blockage there and I don't want to experience that again....
Manage to put the valve straight on the hull and only use a 120 degree bend towards the hose.

Replace the hose to the tank also. The cut-out below the tank is not strictly necessary, but makes the access to the hose clamps under there a lot simpler.

I used the 1 1/2" flush through hull, (just for my own aesthetic). This need a 6 mm recess in the hull. The hull for my 430e is only 8 mm thick. I therefore added some extra epoxy on the inside.

Now my winter-project is to create and add some new doors for the cut-outs I made.
And replace the other thru hulls and valves when taking the boat up on land again next summer.

Hope this might be useful for others that has not yet replaced their valves.

owners.

We have just replaced all of our thru hulls, valves and tails taking out all the DZR and replacing with bronze on our 2012 Hanse 325.
We did consider using TrueDesign but we could not fit them in the heads inlet as there was too little space.
One big surprise was when we changed the valve on the Volvo saildrive seawater inlet.  The valves was marked as MS58 on the body which turns out to be brass and all advice appears to be that this material is 'not suitable for seawater applications'.  We have now replaced this with bronze as well.

I am about to replace all the through hulls and seacocks on my 2001 Hanse 371. They look fine (much better that the ones at the start of this post), but it is past time.

I will be using Truedesign. They take up a bit more space but it looks like there is enough space.
