Hi,

Is there any Jefa stamp in the rubber stock or elsewhere so that one could check the make of his rudder?

Best Regards

The only way to know for sure is to open the blade. Jefa has a skeleton made from aluminium rectangular profile welded to the shaft (see picture 1) and the Polish no name from cylindric rods just inserted into holes into the shaft (oict 2)

Another option to determin if you have a Jefa or not is to take pictures of your existing rudder (with a ruler included) and then contact jefa directly. They have been more than helpful to me when dealing with issues related to rudders. Thay may also be able to say if they has delivered the rudder based on your boats production week/slot number (stated in the documentation).

Thanks for all the information. One would think thet Hanse should be able to tell you what kind of rudder was fitted to your yacht, by just giving them the Production number of your yacht. I've been checking on the Hanse yachts website, but I cannot find a clear e-mail address or telephone number. Does anyone know where to send such inquiry, or what number to call? It would be a bit odd to contact the potential supplier and ask if they delivered the rudder to your yacht.....I would presume that Hanse Yachts knows.

You might think that but when I approached them about a replacement rudder for my 2001 301 the result was a complete blank. I think

The Hanse Business was built and expanded rapidly in the second half of the 2000-2010 decade.
Materials were sourced and priced on a yearly contract, so in a fixed 12 month period sub -contract companies were contracted to supply a fixed number of components.
When production was exceeding supply any number of components were brought in at best price and delivery time, so no 2 boats were getting the same materials.

None of this means a boat will be good or bad; but it is does mean you cannot compare components on 2 boats from the same age.

explains a tremendous amount of a) the variety of rudders (and other parts) from boat to boat of identical model and age (there are at least three different rudder designs I've seen on 301s, for instance) , and b) why Hanse are so often unable to supply clear details of the fit out of individual hulls. Perhaps they are also reticent to do this becuase of owner reaction- if I oredered a boat and so did my neighbour, but his boat turned up itemised with Jefa components and I got the Polish stuff, I shoud be annoyed. Clearly this was happening and perhaps to lots of different bits of the boat.

Thanks, I will contact Jefa to see if I have any luck there...... My experience from them is that they are extremely service minded and friendly. I got excellent help from them when I needed new rudder bearings on my previous yacht (Bavaria 42) last summer.
