Has anyone anything positive to say about this app or am I missing something?
In trying to chase down manuals I was directed to this app, and given a code to set it up for specific details on my boat... which is not the case. Not to mention that you cannot forward or download the PDF's? It seems entirely setup to sell you more stuff, and is pretty useless in a practical sense... Am I wrong? /M

Hello M,
The app does have some usefulness, however it is designed to work with the actual Sentinel boat monitor device. With that installed, there are more features such as boat position/anchor monitoring, bilge pump monitoring, shore power and battery monitoring. The telematic device has its own cell service for off-boat monitoring. One feature I like is the trip logging which is automatic and comes with mapping. Hanse installs this on new boats and it comes with a two-year free subscription. After that it costs, about $250? Per year to renew. The manuals are useful because you always have access as long as you have cell service. The in-app navigation could be better but what couldn’t? I’ve actually used it a lot.

Hi Mike,
Thx for the response, makes sense. For me I would like to reduce dependency, and have most of these things planned or in place. Bilge pump monitoring would be nice though! I just recoil at buying equipment that requires an ongoing subscription... (even BMW are planning to add features like seat heating as a subscription service!) /M

I think that the app, by itself is free with the manual access. The monitoring part is what costs money, but you can think of that as giving your boat its own cell number so you can call it at any time to see how it’s doing. That’s useful if you are going to be away from it for a while and it’s in the water.

It does seem strange that you can't download the manuals as you certainly need access to them at times you won't have cellular cover or when overseas with high roaming costs.
I found the ability to check the battery state when 9,000 miles away from the boat useful during the winter layup. I also make use of the anchor watch and it detected one potentially serious anchor drag caused by the Bora winds in Croatia. However am spending the equivalent of the first year subscription on a pair of raspberry pi microcomputers linked to an LTE modem. One runs Victron Venus to allow remote access to my battery management and the other is a more general boat computer running plotter and data recording/analysis tools. Together these do far more than Sentinel and also provide a common internet connected WiFi fo all aboard. I won't be taking up a paid Sentinel subscription.

So, I asked the question of my local dealer. The App functionality is intended by design.

Not specifically. You will find schematics, original brochures etc but the data I have dug up is pretty generic. The best information is in this forum, but you need to dig around.
What specifically are you looking for?
