Does anyone have a diagram of the shaft and coupling arrangement on a 575 which they are will to share?  Loks like we need to replace the shaft coupling.

Leon,

Thanks. I had found this doc on the Centa website. Looks like we will replace the entire coupling and thrust bearing assembly. But we will wait until this November when we next haul out.

Hi Wayne
you must expect to drop the rudder to remove the shaft.

Actually, I believe you only need to slide the shaft 10 inches or so to release it from the coupling. Maybe remove the prop for more clearance but not likely. I would think replacing the shaft seal could also be done. The bigger problem is better access inside the compartment !

Duncan and Leon,

We may not need to remove the shaft to replace the coupling and thrust bearing assembly but access is terrible. The distance from the prop hub to the rudder is about 1 meters so we may remove the shaft without dropping the rudder if needed to.

Wayne, just curious…what problem are you having with the Centaflex? Is it the thrust bearing or the rubber flex rings ?

Leon,

The Fischer Panda had leaked cooling water on the coupling over years and this has corroded the rubber element mount ing bolts into the aluminium inserts in the rubber. We will need to cut through these bolts to remove teh coupling. Lastly the thrust bearing is badly corroded. So I made the decision to replace the entire assembly. An engineer assisting me said if we can't get the coupling off the shaft (with the jacking bolts) we may need to cut the shaft which would also mean a new shaft. Due to availability and frieght times for the coupling we are going to postpone this work until next December when we will haulout again.

sorry to hear that.
The FisherPanda and leaking issues is a pain in the…
and the position of the gen ,on top of the engine in our case ,is not helpful.
We have the same issue but different results.
The saltwater destroyed the silent blocks and isolation ,the salty vapors put the PCB in fire 🔥🤬
We replace the new PCB outside the Panda box ,new silent blocks and a collection pan under the gen with a draintube to the bilges.
