On my Hanse 342 the joint between hull and deck around the ship is sealed with Sikaflex.
The Sikaflex at this point is brittle and disintegrates, I have to reseal the seam.
Has anyone already done this work and can give a few tips?

Hello Cintra,
there are numerous threads dealing with this subject. First of all it is a cosmetic issue only, nothing structural. In the 2013/2014 period Hanse apparently switched from Sika to another supplier and all hull/deck joints at this time developped into a ugly surface with mildew. Ultimately Hanse picked up the tab for correcting it.
You will find the corrective actions via the search function " hull deck joint"

You will find the corrective actions via the search function " hull deck joint". Make sure that you select in advanced options "all" and "any time"

I have done this on our 370
We used black in stead of white
Black stays black, white becomes dirty black....

Hi Marcel, dit you use any primer on the aluminum footrail? Last summer I renewed our Sikaflex. Looks good but allready I can see that it does not stick on the alumium. So I will have to do it all over and it will be black.

Thnxs for the info,

Frank

Marcel,

Silly of me not to take the time to use primer Angry Now I have to do it all again. But at least I now know what to do LOL

The black color looks superbe. Did you also recaulc the teak bumper (stootrand) and the teak on the topsides of the structure (op de opbouw boven de ramen)?

Can you tell me if you have to wait (or how long) after using the primer before using Sikaflex? Nearby our homewater is a harbour (jachthaven de Put) where you can more alongside and do your thing. And I love to do it in one weekend (beter in one day).

Happy sailing!

I thought I would share a tip I got from another Hanse owner that really works for the discoloration at the hull deck joint. The application of a product called Wet & Forget (https://www.wetandforget.com/wet-and-forget-concentrate.html) really works well to get rid of the discoloration in just a few days. Whenever I see it start to look dark in places, I just spray some of this on and it does the trick. I also use it on the teak if I start to see any greenish discoloration there. We can get this at Costco, but not sure if it is available in Europe.
