Has anybody installed or considered a solarpanel. I am planning a fixed module (rigid or flex, but mounted on the deck) in front of the sprayhood. I haven't figured out yet the maximum and practical size of the panel itself, nore where to take the cable through the deck. Second issue is the current/voltage regulator, where would it be practical to mount it and how to make cabling connections. I have three battery version, which mean that 230V/AC charger is the bigger version delivered by factory.

I was wondering of anyone could assist me what would be good to consider and even better if someone has installed solarpanel(module) already.

I have considered the same solution, and mounting location myself. But taken into account the price for a solar panel + regulator, and the amount of power this in practical will provide, i spent half the money on a external charging regulator and battery separator.

Bearing in mind that even a very small shadow will reduce the output from the panel a lot, the location under the boom is probably not ideal. But having a large panel on the pushpit is unpractical as well, unless you're aiming for a Atlantic crossing... Tongue

Last season this provided sufficient power for my weekend cruises; starting off from the local marina with topped-up batteries from the shore power, using LED bulbs wherever applicable. With a Ah-meter installed, I'm able to keep track of the power demand/usage/charge at all times - definitely one of my personal favorites!

The panels I've looked at is the "flat" type that will fit the "lid" on top of the companionway nicely. Also the regulators from NAPS has been recommended in different forums. So, if my demand for more juice in the future - this will be my choice... Wink  (Practical wins over efficiency - again.)
