Trying to sort wiring to "spare" light switch on panel so I can connect to mast mounted deck light.

Any ideas why the spare light green led is not illuminating? Tried with both external light switches. No power getting to mast light. All other lights are working fine.

It's a bit of a snakes wedding behind the panel so don't know whether photos of rear will help!

James

Hi James:

In the photo the switch for the deck light (labelled 'spare') is turned off.   Are you saying the green LED doesn't come on even if you switch it on?

Owen.

Yes, whichever switch is down on the left side the spare doesn't come on

Hi, have you checked the connections under the mast? All the wires get there: I have connected steam and deck light just right there.
There is a common negative  and all the positives already set.

Yes but in your photo the switch below the spare/deck light LED is off so that circuit is turned off, in which case it would be normal that the LED doesn’t illuminate.   Just trying to confirm that in addition to turning on the breaker on the left you are turning on the little switch below the “spare” LED.

Yes whichever way the spare switch is I don't get the LED illumination. Not do I get power along the orange cable at the mast. So think it is in the panel somewhere.

I have wago connectors at the mast.

Yes it does sound like the panel wiring.  I will be out on my boat next week and I have another reason to look at my panel so I’ll see if I can trace my wiring for reference.   I’ve never heard the “snake’s wedding” expression - that’s a great one!

I'd echo Martin&Rene's post but would add that chocolate-box connecters are very prone to corrosion and may well add a lot of resistance into your circuits.  They're an example of where builders or other workmen want to save time and money; all mine have been replaced with proper alternatives.

James:  I found some old photos of the back of the panel and can see most of the wiring there.   It may be that you don't have the wiring for the deck light since it is listed as an option, but here is what it looks like on my 400e which seems to have a very similar panel.

It may be that your deck light switch is just not connected to the breaker, or else the other end of the deck light switch is not connected to the LED & mast wire.
