Hi cptgood, are you sure about the ground connection? I tried to find something about this on Jefa's homepage? I had the boat for 10 years now, and there are no corrosion on the rudder stock, so I am afraid of create a problem if I remove the grounding Confused

When I bought my boat last year there was no wire connected. In fact I didn't even see the loose wire anywhere there. However, I have very significant pitting in the stock and I contacted Jefa about it. The first thing they said in their reply is to make sure the grounding is disconnected. This is their reply:

"You can read more about it here: https://jefa.dk/electrolysis/

Also look after a grounding wire on the rudder stock, if there is one, please cut it. See attached file."

p.s. not sure if this upload of the PDF will work.

Maybe corrosion was caused by bottom paint with copper? While I dont know for sure, In my case, previous owner was not technical at all and maybe had no idea what paint was being applied.

In my case the pitting is all around the stock and pretty deep in couple of places (7mm). Still, Jefa is saying since the stock is 83mm solid alum, it should not be a big problem.

Over this winter, I am addressing the entire rudder issue. Drained lots of water, removed and replaced part of the foam, fixed fiberglass cracks and splits, filled the pitting. I've also installed rudder anodes. They are made from more active alloy than the rudder stock and are designed for save aluminum.

Thanks to SailC33 for the pdf upload. Since it says boats built since september 2010 and with no zink anode on the hull I will not cut my grounding. I have zink on the hull and the boat is from before sept -10. "Don't change a winning team" Ermm

My boat was built in 2008. I don't have hull anode. I thought I did but in fact it was grounding plates.
