Hi,
Interesting discussion, but ...the comparison between ships depend heavily on the sails it has. Our 375 last year with the regular sails and fixed blade propellor had max. STW of 5.5knts in true wind of 7 knts (at about 70° app.wind) We changed prop to maxprop and put on a code 0 this year. Now in the same 7knts of wind our max. STW is almost 7 knts...
Furthermore: i read in this topic that a grand soleil 50 had no major speed advantage compared to 385, although the grand soleil has undoubtedly much more waterline length. Stating then that the few cm. of difference in waterline between a 370 or 375 and 385 makes all the difference is making me smile Big%20smile
When i compare 370 or 375 to 385 i see some differences which all have to do with price:
- 385 has 2 less winches.
- 385 is essentially a smaller ship than predecessors
- Despite being shorter, it is advertised as a 385, meaning a 38 foot at an advertised price of about the 375.
To me this seems more of a commercial trick to battle against for instance Bavaria.

We went to Boot last WE and visited the 385. I am happy and will stay happy with our 375 :)

Dear All,

The 385 may well be faster on a like for like basis than a 370 or 375, but not when it is hooked to a lobster pot by its torpedo keel.

Hello there,

With my this year's trim I make in 7 m/s true wind (13,5 knots) at 30 app. degree  7 knots on average. Although no big waves. I think that's pretty good.

BR,
Mikki

at 6 knots wind i measured 6.5 knots trough water. This was on our 375 with code 0 sail in front :)

We just got back from a 14 day tour on our new Hanse 385 and the boat was spectacular
sailed beautifully- handles like a dream I (the wife) was at the helm doing 9kts in over 18 knts wind and felt very secure she is so smooth just glides through the water
she is also very comfortable down below... and the swim platform is like an additional sunroom
I love our new boat.
