These cockpit lamps are gorgeous! They are fancy in the special wooden storage cases and they look great when installed.    But, for the life of me, I can’t figure out how to get them to turn on. No switch, no breaker, no power... I don’t know how to turn it on and can’t find anything....?

Anyone else have these? How do they work?

Rob,

I think they are standard on all 575's. The turn them on grab the light by the chrome lower half and rotate it. This action turns these lights on and rotating it further turns them off. They are nice and probably expensive but are fairly useless as the light is too bright and too low. Have you been able to get the light out of the socket?

On my 415 the cockpit light is on the cabin light breaker.

We found them too bright but by unscrewing the top we cut a sheet of white paper to fit inside the glass. This reduced the brightness by 25% and makes the light more useable.

I agree they look fancy but really don't perform all that well.  In addition to the brightness issue, thesocket corrodes and is expensive to replace.

However from the image yours looks slightly different to mine so maybe they have improved this with a slight redesign.

To operate the lamp you simply plug it in (keep lubricated or the connections will corpse) then simply squeeze the lower part of the stem with forefinger and thumb, each time you squeeze the lamp gets a little brighter, three levels of illumination, then it goes off, squeeze again and it’s back on and Ito cycle once more- simples 🙈

They are "touch me" lights.   We use them all the time.     Touch once,  one level of brightness.  Touch again,  brighter.   Touch a third time, brighter.  Touch four times, they go out.

I actually ordered a couple of spares as I was worried about finding them 3-4 years from now (there are two and if one went bad....)

There is a bit of "depress and twist" in putting them into the socket, but it works pretty well for us.
