Don't know if anybody has encountered this before, but my bow thruster failed and upon further inspection i found that one of the micro limit-switches inside the electro-mechanic drive unit has failed (jeeeez these things are tiny....). I investigated further and found that in the electronic control-box there is some simple logic to check if the "signals" coming from the limit-swithes make any sense....i.e. open and close at the same time.. etc. When the logic detects an error, it puts the unit out of service.... nothing you can do with it anymore, unless you jumper the faulty switch and use manual local control in the control-box, but then you need to power down and reboot first.
I am now contemplating building a very simple piece of epoxy-plate, glued onto the unit with 2 adjustable limit-switches that are controlled by the lever itself, not the drive unit. So when the lever circles to the closed position it will pass and activate the "closed" limit switch etc.
This way i can use strong and sturdy limit-swithes, and easily manually control them as well (without having to open the control box) when something fails and i urgently need a thruster to start working.
Any thoughts on this mod?

It doesn't sound absolutely crazy, but at the same time I don't think failure of the limit switches is widely reported, and you might be cost and time ahead to replace the limit switch with same, and if you like, carry a spare.

I agree. Failure is very rare and the system works very well as is.
