Hello everyone
I exchanged the sea cocks on my Hanse 350 and replaced them with Trudesign. Trudesign has a variant that displays the status of the valves. Unfortunately, the price called there is absolutely out of any question. So I thought about how to do this with little effort (financially and practically). Trudesign seems to use a reed contact. After removing the control lever, I only had to remove the blue cover, which is only fixed in two places with a little glue. I then designed a replacement cover that accommodates two reed contacts so that both end positions can be queried safely. As reeds, I used the usual 14x3x3mm plastic housings that are available everywhere and a 5x1mm magnet. There is enough space under the cover to place these two contacts. For the magnet I then also designed a holder that is clipped into the adjusting lever. So I can recognize the state OPEN and CLOSED exactly, if either the line is interrupted or the lever is undefined between the two end positions, I can evaluate this as "undefined". Fortunately, Trudesign only uses two housing variants for the different diameters. I evaluated the reed contacts using an ESP32, but it can also be wired directly with LEDs ![]() Here from the "inside" - looked into the replacement cover. The reeds are each slightly offset from the axis of rotation so that the open / closed position is reliably recorded ![]() ![]() So far I've used it to control a number of LEDs and a webpage in the simplest form on which the status of the valves is provided in text form, i.e. it can be called up via cell phone / tablet. In addition, I have the option of outputting a "pseudo - NMEA 0183" as output via the serial monitor, ultimately nothing more than a text line that changes according to the status. But I'll want to expand on that because I want to set up an electronic logbook in which all data that can be made available should be collected and evaluated I didn't get any further because the boat is in GR and I had to go back to the cold and wet latitudes. regards Uli

Hi Uli,
That looks a great project, and extremely well done. I look forward to seeing it all in place if we get through the canal again this year. Best wishes Bob
