Hi,

I want to change the water inlet on my Yanmar SD20 saildrive, by a time as shown on this picture. (closes better and far more easily). I know this has been done by more people. Anyone can tell me which size it is? Didn't remove it yet (still in the water), but looks like 1/2" or something?

Thx in advance!

I have done this.
DZR equal nipple, male thread, 1/2"bsp
DZR 90 degree hose tail, 1/2" bsp male to 19mm hose.
CR Ball Valve 1/2" BSP female ports
2x 18mm-25mm SS hose clips.
All from ASAP Supplies in UK.

I did something very similar but I wanted to electrically separate the stainless fittings from the aluminium Saildrive so I used a Truedesign skin fitting cut down to form the nipple (male to male connector). I was a little hesitant to do this but I checked with the U.K. agent for Truedesign and they said that they had done it many times. That was five years ago and no problems so far.

Hi MyStudio

You show a picture of the SD60 saildrive as example?
If you have SD20 you should read the whole thread here because the sd20 has tapered threads:

Damn, did not expect that. That makes it difficult. It's indeed a SD20. The picture is just an example. So, that means the SD20 has a tapered BSP. That will be a challenge to find a replacement then. @Redlion; is yours a SD20 too or do you have the SD50 version?

Engine is Yanmar 3ym20 so I assume SD20 saildrive.
The shut off valve modification was carried out by a qualified engineer who did not report any problems but who knows, maybe he just forced it in?
