In going through the electrical system in our 445 I found what looks like a router. There is no documentation or references in the boat order sheet or survey. Any ideas?
The mystery device is an allnet. It’s powered on and blinking green for wan, wps and power. It’s silver and located behind the electric panel. It’s doesn’t show up in any WiFi or Bluetooth searches. Thanks in advance for your help.

I have a similar ethernet router. I believe it is to connect multiple MFDs to allow chart sharing ir to connect radar.
It appears to have orange proprietary (?) connections rather standard ethernet connections. I'm interested to know if this might be used in conjunction with a MiFi device to provide a central boat-wide internet capability.

Part of the B&G instrument package from factory is a WiFi access point so that you can replicate the plotters in a tablet. If it’s about the size of a chocolate bar and silver and black that is what it is. The Ethernet booster/switch is the usual B&G black box shape. All this is behind the Wurth panel on my 445 fitted with first gen Zeus Touch which I believe did not have WiFi built in unlike gen 2 and 3.
I do not believe the B&G access point can be repurposed as a router/internet access point but could be wrong.

that sounds like the device. I wonder how you access it from if it does indeed connect the chart plotters. I have a gofree module installed but can’t access. I can’t get past the password. Im using the supplied password but no go. If this mystery device does the same thing perhaps it would replace the gofree.

There are two internet switches on the standard setup. One links to the Fusion sound system and the other to the B&G radar and NMEA 2000/IP translator.
If you add a wifi router (probably 4G too) and plug in the fusion switch (or better just replace it with your wifi router - then you can control the Fusion sound with an app on your phone. Not a big deal but useful. More useful is linking the B&G switch to the wifi. Then you can use B&G connect app to add remotes for the plotters on tablets and phones. You can also use numerous NMEA data display apps. |
