Me again....
Boat is back in the water and looking good, thank you for all your help and advice. Unfortunately the simrad is20 wind vane is not registering with the instrument panel . The wind panel lights up and has ----- on the display but not registering any wind movement. Any ideas? Can't see where to buy a replacement wind vane. Thanks James |

It might be the cable or the connector corroded.
You have to check continuity on that (ask a rigger) . Otherwise, go up, take down the anemometer and connect it directly to the cable that runs from under the mast to the instrument itself (the male/male connector is the black barrel with yellow bands). If it works replace the cable inside the mast (80 euros for 20 meters). As far as sofware, You could try a reset of the complete system ( I do it from the tridata instrument).

Wind instrument may have lost the ID of the wind sensor source. Try a wind instrument reset. From memory, just press and hold left hand button whilst applying power. If you are onboard alone just dismount instrument and disconnect Simnet cable. Turn power on then reconnect Simnet cable while holding button. Double check the manual for which button in case my memory slips!

Tried the connection under the mast - still no joy.
Will try the reset next weekend. Could the connections be loose within the wind vane? If so can you take it apart to check?

I do not think so !
The windvane housing is very very watertight & sealed. You can access to the small electronic board in it by undoing the windvane itself and its bearings. I did it in an attempt of repair for windspeed wheel... Sadly I had to buy a new one (£400) thats lasted another 5 years before it died again. Just a few wires soldered on the board. I just threw the whole orignal electronics away & swap for Triton 2 system. I hope it will last longer... but I have doubts Good luck

So the reset didn't work.
Will dismantle and look next week Possibly buy a wireless NASA one and add that to the system |
