looking to install LED LIGHT to light my Windex for night sailing.
Trying to avoid drawing additional cable up the mast.

Cable going up the mast have 3 wires
Blue + brown connects to anchor light.
Spare  is yellow/green.

Wondering if anyone here have a solution how
To use the total of 3 wires to turn on/off two sets of
Light - anchor and windex light - and of course not at the same time..

Appreciate your input

with diodes you can build a solution. Therefore you have to be able to change polarity on the bottom side, than you could switch with two cables between two devices

Will that light be seen by other vessels when you are under way?

This is simple if I'm not wrong. Blue is common ground/0 volt. Brown is + for anchor light. Yellow/green is intended as + for tricolor (using blue as common 0v). So connect the Y/G to your windex LED + and use blue as 0v. Then you switch on windex light by the tricolor switch on your switch panel.

Hi, Unless you use a tricolour fitting, surely you will be in danger of showing an ĎAnchorí light when you arenít anchored. Our windex has orange reflective paint on the underside and we just shine a torch up the mast and you can easily see it, donít even have to get the beam right onto the windex.
All the best

it is very weak little led pointing up and shielded at the sides but
When boat is sagging/rolling this might be a possibility I will
Think about when navigating close to larger vessels.
Intention is however for regatta night sailing with other sailing boats all around..

So it may not comply with the Colregs & perhaps should not be used with other boats around. The size of approaching vessel is irrelevant.
Would it not be better to place it so that the unit is very slightly above the white light of a tricolour nav light and slightly behind it, such that the white light illuminates your windex without the need for an additional light.
Of course, in that situation you could not have lights at deck level as well as a tricolour, unless you only had the white sector light at the top of the mast & port & stbd at deck level. Some yachts are supplied like that. With the steaming light positioned in the front 2 sectors of the white light when needed.
The unit then doubles as an anchor light when not under way.
