Hi,

I have not been able to find where the contactor for the Lewmar windlass is installed on a 430.

The contactor being the box that the wired remote operates, not the circuit breaker .

Is anyone able to offer any ideas where it's usually located?

Thanks,

Steve / 430 No.75.

Hanse usually puts it on the main DC power board. Not sure where that sits on your boat, but usually near the nav station.

Thanks for the reply.

The DC panel with the 12V service and anchor circuit breakers//earth bars//chargers//auto pilot etc doesn't seem to be where it's installed on the 430.

Cheers,

Steve

@Steve; were you able to locate the contactor? I am also trying to find it on my 430.

Looking at the Lewmar manual the Contactor is located within the case of the Lewmar windlass.  Hanse puts the circuit breaker behind the Nav Station seat with the other circuit breakers for Service and Winches.

Please do not start to disassemble the windlass. No contactors hidden there.
Look at the picture from my boat. From the Thermal Circuit Breaker (70A) marked ANCHOR, there is a short red cable 35 mm2 to the contactor. The contactor has the size of 2 packets of cigarettes and is black.
The contactor is basically a large relay, which is triggered by a small current (1A), and then releases a large current (50-60A). My Lewmar is the 1000/ProFish.
The smaller Lewmar 700 winch works with a smaller current, like some 35-40A, and this model is NOT equipped with a contactor, but with a toggle switch. This winch is for boats <35 ft.

Sorry for the delay.

I think so.

I believe it is in a void underneath the floor in the anchor locker and is not accessible.   The best I could do was to shine a bright torch into this space from an access "hatch" in the forward cabin and to then try and direct my camera into that space.   From that, I could see where the cables from the windlass were terminated, and I think I could see a shadow of the contactor module, but I could not access the contactor.

See the link to the Lewmar manual.    Page 19, Part number 63 in the picture.

The contactor is mounted within the case.

@Steve, @Captain Cook,

I have a 2011 430 that I am looking to install a windlass.  A windlass was not installed when she was built.  It would be very helpful if you could share a picture or two of what your factory installed windlass looks like in the anchor locker.

Cheers,

Paul
